Find Your Happy Space

Happy Space

The first step would be to find a happy space. What part of the house makes you feel good when you walk into it? You also want to consider factors like quietness and limited foot traffic. Don’t limit yourself to your home’s interior either. You might feel best when you’re on your deck, in your sunroom, or outside in your garden. The idea is simply to choose a place that is free from distraction that makes you feel good instantly.

Clean Your Happy Space

Once you’ve identified the space in or outside of your home that you feel best in, you want to clean things up. There’s often no bigger distraction than clutter and mess. Depending on what room you’ve chosen and how much is present in the room, this could take a while and even require some purging. Clean the space from top to bottom remembering to wipe down all surfaces including the walls and floors.

Incorporate Light

Incorporate Light - Relaxation Room

The amount of light in a room can positively or negatively impact a person’s mood. Natural lighting, however, is the most effective in boosting your mood and healing your body. So, in your relaxation room, try to incorporate as much natural light as you can. Get lighter window treatments, or, if you’re in a secluded spot, perhaps you ditch the window and door coverings altogether and just allow the light in. If there isn’t much natural light in the space you’ve chosen, installing dimming lights is recommended. This way you can determine whether you want the room to be vibrant and bright to boost your energy levels or dim and low to calm the mind.

Nature is Healing

Not only is natural light good for the mind and body, but exposure to nature is also therapeutic. Now that you have a clean space with the right amount of light, it’s time to add in elements of nature. If your happy space is outdoors, then you already have all the nature you need. Otherwise, you can invest in things like plants, flowers, and water fountains.

Relaxation Furniture and Supplies

What you do in your relaxation room is totally up to you. With that being said, you may need to purchase some supplies and furniture to make doing those tasks easier. If you are going to meditate in the room, you’d want to get comfortable pillows, mats, and rugs for the floors. If you plan on pampering yourself, you might need a massage table or chair, massage oil and lotion, and hot towels. Thinking of lounging and reading a good book? Then you might invest in a bookshelf and a comfortable lounge chair.

How would you like to improve your mood, boost your immune system, relieve any pain, and reduce stress? It’s been proven to be possible with the assistance of aromatherapy. The scent from essential oils, candles, and incents help to resolve all the problems listed above. You can experiment with different fragrances, however, some of the most therapeutic have proven to be chamomile, vanilla, lavender, and peppermint.

Last but not least, you want to make sure you have music playing in your relaxation room. This shouldn’t be party music or smooth jams, but uplifting or instrumental music that calms the mind and heals the soul. Create a playlist and invest in a docking station and wireless speakers for your smartphone or tablet and enjoy music playing in the background.

There’s always something going on in life. If you do nothing to combat the emotions that often result after stressful, traumatic, or emotional times, eventually, it will rob you of your happiness, peace, and health. More people than ever struggle with chronic stress, depression, and anxiety and while there are a number of factors that play into this, not knowing how to cope with overwhelming emotions is at the top of the list. Creating a space in your home where you can relax and reset is, therefore, an idea worth giving a try. Click here to read more articles like this.
