1. Do a Patch Test on Every New Skincare Product
Patch testing has saved many people from angry, red skin rashes or itchy, dry, and flaky skin. It is done by applying a small portion of a new skincare product to a tiny area of your face to monitor the reaction. One can do a patch test for allergic reactions or breakouts. Products that contain thick and heavy oils may cause unexpected irritation or breakouts even on normal skin.
To do a patch test for allergies, take a small portion of the new product and apply it to a hidden part of your face such as on the nape of your neck, on your jaw, or the back of the ears. Avoid using other products on your face for about two days while you watch for allergic reactions on the part of your face where you did the patch test.

3. Shower the Right way
If you have sensitive skin, there are certain precautions you should take in the shower to protect your skin. For instance, closing the shower door when you are in the shower helps build up the humidity in the bathroom and that extra moisture is great for sensitive skin. However, too much water can be bad for sensitive skin, because it washes away the natural protective oils on the skin. So keep shower and bath times as short as possible. Another way to avoid stripping away the skin’s natural oils is to stay away from soaps containing harsh chemicals and use as little soap as possible when taking a bath. Rather than air dry, lightly tap dry your wet body with a towel then use a nice moisturizing oil to lock in the moisture left on your body after a shower.
5. Have the Right Diet
A 2014 study published in the Journal of Clinical and Aesthetic Dermatology confirms that some types of foods are capable of triggering certain skin conditions. Likewise, many people with sensitive skin would notice that their skin issues are exacerbated when they eat certain foods. While there is still limited research on all the foods to avoid if you have sensitive skin, it’s wise to stay away from foods with excessive salt, additives, sugars, junk food, and spicy food.
