Do you love the guy in your life but hate his look? Even if your man has passable style, it’s all but inevitable that you are eventually going to grow tired of seeing his favorite, tried and true outfits at every single event.
Most men have an arsenal of adored clothing items that they wear repeatedly. Whether it be because they hold sentimental value or they’re just plain comfortable, you are probably going to want to give him a style makeover at some point.
There are two different ways to go about doing this. The wrong way is to throw a fit and insist that he throw away his favorite varsity football t-shirt because you don’t like how it smells. The right way, however, is to subtly begin to help him through a wardrobe upgrade.
The key to a successful style makeover for your man is to impart your opinion without forcing it onto him. He is not a pet and you can’t tell him to ‘sit’ and expect him to do as you say without objection.
To help you along on this journey, we’ve come up with a few helpful tips. If you follow these, you’ll have the guy in your life looking dapper in no time at all.
Hear his Concerns
Many men will be open and honest when you decide that you want to start helping them with their style. If he’s afraid of breaking the bank, you can and should take it upon yourself to gift him a few affordable, key clothing items that you know he’ll love. Not only will this show him that clothes don’t have to always be expensive, but it will get him more involved in the process.
I recommend seeking out some mall favorites. Places like Forever 21 and H&M are both very fashion forward and affordable for men, with a vast selection of styles to choose from.
Imagine for a moment that he decided that he wanted to change you. That doesn’t feel very good, does it? Being told that you are not good enough is never going to make you happy. That is why we suggest using positive reinforcement as opposed to focusing on the negatives.

Instead of nagging him about those outfits you loathe, take a different approach. Whenever he wears something you really like, make sure you compliment him genuinely. Once he correlates those outfits with your happiness, he will not only feel better about himself and more confident in his looks, but he will start wearing them more often because of it.
Know that it Won’t Happen Overnight
You are not going to sneak into your man’s apartment ninja-style and replace all of his drab clothes with ones of your choosing. If you do, you’ll probably end up pretty miserable when he explodes on you.
This is a tedious, slow moving process at times and you are going to need to know when to pick and choose your battles. Remember, however, that the end goal is for him to feel good about himself, not for you to feel good about him.
